Lukyanenko didn't show himself in the best light. On the other hand, you can't rule out the possibility that the hack writer staged a provocation on the level of Apache; he certainly has the skills for it.
UPDATE: Lukyanenko closed his journal with an "emo"-style excuse. Now he'll just quietly go on churning out sentimental snot, flying to conferences, and buying SUVs, while irrationally hating Americans.
